Chairman David Porter Addresses Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners Association-Applauds Texas Oil & Gas Producers for Strong Production in Face of Industry Challenges
AMARILLO – Railroad Commission Chairman David Porter spoke today at the Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners Association (PPROA) 86th Annual Convention. Porter praised the Texas energy industry for maintaining strong production even as oil and gas shale activity slows nationwide.
“In the face of these challenges, Texas has helped keep the United States economy strong. Of the 800 rigs nationwide, almost half of them are in Texas,” Porter said. “I am proud of the oil and gas industry, and I am confident that if anyone can help the U.S. navigate this downturn in energy prices, it’s our Texas producers.”
Porter – the longest serving member of Texas’ energy regulatory agency – attributes much of Texas’ success in energy production to its fair and stable regulatory framework, emphasizing the importance of protecting state primacy and combating federal intervention.
“We rely on stable free-market policies that encourage innovation and competition, and prevent overregulation from hindering job creation and economic growth, as we’ve unfortunately seen in other states, like California and New York,” Porter said. “The Texas Railroad Commission has safely and efficiently regulated our state’s oil and gas industry for almost a hundred years, and as a result, our state’s economy has flourished, even during times of national economic hardship.”
Texas Railroad Commission Chairman David Porter was elected statewide by the people of Texas to serve as a member of the Commission in November 2010. A Certified Public Accountant and successful small business owner, Chairman Porter has worked with oil and gas producers for nearly three decades providing strategic financial advice and tax counsel. He is the senior member of the Commission with a proven record of principle-driven, free market conservative leadership.
