The Railroad Commission of Texas will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 22 through Friday, Nov. 24 in observance of Thanksgiving. The RRC will reopen for regular business Monday morning, Nov. 27. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.
Railroad Commission Chairman Smitherman Congratulates AG’s Office on Successful Disposition in Court on Dos Republicas Mining Permit
AUSTIN- Railroad Commission Chairman Barry Smitherman congratulates the Office of the Attorney General of Texas in obtaining a successful disposition in court last Thursday on the Dos Republicas Coal Partnership permit application. The District Court of Travis County upheld the Railroad Commission’s Final Order issued on Jan. 29, 2013. This Final Order approved the Dos Republicas permit to expand mining operations in Texas.
“Texas coal mining provides jobs for thousands of hard-working Texans and positively impacts our state economy.” Smitherman said. “We applaud the AG’s office for working diligently on behalf of Texas citizens and the Railroad Commission of Texas.”
Chairman Barry Smitherman was appointed to the Railroad Commission of Texas in July 2011, and was elected Chairman in February 2012. In November 2012, Chairman Smitherman won a statewide election to the Commission with 74 percent of the vote, receiving more than 4.5 million votes. Chairman Smitherman currently serves as Texas’ representative on both the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission and the Southern States Energy Board, and as Chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners’ Gas Committee. He is on the Visiting Committee of the Bureau of Economic Geology with the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas School of Law Center for Global Energy, International Arbitration, and Environmental Law, and the Eanes Education Foundation Advisory Board.
