Alternative Fuels Safety Online Exams

The RRC will expand the online exams offered as the program develops. The first exams offered will be those in the most demand.

LPG Online Exams

The Railroad Commission of Texas now offers employee-level online examinations for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly referred to as propane, certification. The agency will expand the online exams offered as the program develops.

Online Exam Certifications Offered

  • Bobtail Driver
  • Service & Installation Technician
  • Transport Driver
  • DOT Cylinder Filler
  • Motor/Mobile Fuel Dispenser
  • Recreational Vehicle Technician
  • Appliance Service & Installation Technician

In addition to passing the online exam, every applicant for the LPG certifications listed, except for transport drivers, must complete 8 hours of approved training by the following May 31.

Registration

Each person must register separately for an online exam event at least 7 days in advance. The registration process has several steps, including paperwork that must be submitted before the 7-day deadline.

Testing Requirements

Individuals registering for the online exams must meet the following requirements to participant in an online exam:

  • use Laptop or desktop computer with webcam;
  • access to Zoom videotelephony and online chat services online platform;
  • ability to read PDF files;
  • resources to be allowed during the online exam(s) include the appropriate rulebooks and other documents provided by the Commission in a digital format. Notes, study guides or other printed materials are prohibited when taking online exams;
  • unique email address (per examinee); and
  • Photo ID.

Online examinations are proctored by a contracted vendor of the Railroad Commission of Texas. Resources allowed during online exam(s) include the appropriate rulebooks and other documents provided by the RRC in digital format. Notes, study guides or other printed materials are prohibited when taking online exams.
