Texas Drilling Permit and Completion Statistics for April 2025

AUSTIN – The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 750 original drilling permits in April 2025. The total includes 665 to drill new oil or gas wells, 19 to re-enter plugged wellbores, 8 field transfers, 56 for re-completion, and 2 reclass.

The breakdown of well types for total original drilling permits in April 2025 is: 127 oil, 36 gas, 549 oil and gas, 28 injection, and 10 other permits.

In April 2025, Commission staff processed 1,571 oil, 445 gas, and 503 injection completions.
